In Chernihiv region President Victor Yushchenko laid flowers at the memorial to young Ukrainian patriots who died in the battle near Kruty railway station, and took part in a rally on the occasion of the 92^nd anniversary of the Kruty battle.

"Coming to Kruty battlefield and honoring memory of the boys, who fought for our independence is always a great honor and great responsibility", said Victor Yushchenko in his speech. "... Kruty is our present, the page in independent Ukraine’s history.

Victor Yushchenko noted critical importance of Kruty battle in the historical context of the struggle for Ukrainian independence. "In the XX century this was the first attempt to state clearly: we, Ukrainians, want our own independent state", he said.
