Kyiv to be grateful for assistance of foreign doctors in Tymoshenko’s examination 26.04.2012
Ukraine will be grateful for the assistance of foreign doctors in conducting a medical examination and treatment of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, but this should be done in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

Ukraine will be grateful for the assistance of foreign doctors in conducting a medical examination and treatment of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, but this should be done in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

He said at a press conference after meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Munich on Saturday that Ukraine was interested in the best possible treatment of Tymoshenko, including by foreign doctors, and that Germany and Canada had expressed their readiness to send doctors to Ukraine.

"We do not mind, we would be grateful, but Ukrainian legislation does not envisage [Tymoshenko’s] travel abroad," Yanukovych said.

He said that the Ukrainian side was ready to provide any capacities of Ukrainian medical institutions, including equipment, for Tymoshenko’s treatment.

At the same time, the president did not rule out that this treatment could be conducted outside of the Kachanivska penal colony, in which Tymoshenko is being held.

"We will look whether this is possible within Ukrainian legislation. If not, then, perhaps, we will change laws," Yanukovych said.

"We want to resolve this issue," he said, noting that the Tymoshenko question should be separated from the question of European integration.
