Hryhoriy Nemyria, the deputy head of the Batkivshchyna Party, says that during the January session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) a delegation of deputies of the BYuT-Batkivshchyna faction will work on having text added to the resolution on Ukraine regarding sanctions for the judges and prosecutors involved in the political persecution of opponents of the current government, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.
"If they don’t hear the signals, then they should hear other instruments that include sanctions," Hryhoriy Nemyria said during a press conference today in Kyiv.
Hryhoriy Nemyria recalled that the report by the Monitoring Committee on Ukraine is to be presented at the January session of PACE. "We will work on getting included in the final resolution text reflecting the need to introduce sanctions for members of the regime," he said.
Hryhoriy Nemyria also said that relevant recommendations were made to the EU in the policy memo published by the by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) "Ukraine after the Tymoshenko Verdict". The memo proposes an approach for the EU to take in this situation, that includes imposing sanctions on the judges and prosecutors that are behind this disgraceful verdict that has nothing to do with justice," he added.
According to him, the ECFR also recommends that the EU impose sanctions on the judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine that reversed the constitutional changes of 2004 and restored the 1996 Constitution of Ukraine.
"Sanctions or no sanctions – President Yanukovych has already created his own image as a political cannibal whose goal is to destroy the opposition in order to achieve a political monopoly led by him and his family. Ukrainians will not tolerate this, and as international statements have shown, leading international organizations and leaders don’t intend to tolerate this either," he added.
